JOSEF KOZAR 1932 - 2005 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Josef on Wednesday, August 24 at the age of 73. Josef was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandpa, son-in-law, brother, and uncle. He was predeceased by his parents, Emilija and Josef; brother Frank; father-in-law Janez; brother-in-law Ludvik; sister-in-law Teresa. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Kristina; five children, Dragica (Colin), Leo (Alli), Slavko (Kim), Joe (Kari), and Ivanka (Leo); grandchildren, Joshua, Jordan, Luke, Devin, Dustin, Matthew, Garret, Kristina, Carson, and new arrival Kolten; nephew Frank; mother-in-law Gizela of Slovenia; brothers, Ludvik (Solveig) of Norway and Steve of Slovenia; sister Anica of Slovenia; other nieces, nephews and many friends. Josef was born and raised in Boreca, former Yugoslavia and immigrated to Canada in 1957. After choosing Winnipeg as his new home, his love Kristina, who he referred to as his honey , joined him shortly thereafter. His work career included the railway gang, steel foundry, and mining industry, ending with a 27-year career as a butcher with Burns Foods, retiring in 1997. Dad was well known for his homemade sausages and beef jerky. He enjoyed his gardens, wine making, playing the accordion, harmonica and guitar (loved to entertain at family gatherings). He enjoyed a cottage for many years, which reminded him of back home. He loved taking trips back to his homeland. Most important in Dad's life was his family and his dog Rusty. A recent reunion with someone special brought much joy and peace. Viewing will be held on Monday, August 29 at 10:30 a.m. with service following at 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 930 Winakwa Rd., Pastor Stacy Moroz officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Leo Kozar, Slavko Kozar, Joe Kozar, Frank Kranjec, Colin McArthur and Leo Carriere. The family thanks the Paramedic Unit and staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their effort. If friends desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation. Dad was such a kind and generous man whose door was always open to anyone. We will always love you and miss you terribly. You will never be forgotten. In our hearts forever.
